Here on the blog, I’m excited to launch this new section giving home tours into the lives of some inspirational people with swoonworthy homes! A home says so much about a person, about a family, about the memories made within the walls, and I love the story each home tells. We all have different definitions of what “home” means to us, as expressed in the style of our homes, and I’m excited to showcase some beautiful ones!
First up today, we have life and style blogger January Hart Rizzo. Once upon a time, I bought a beautiful skirt from her then fashion line, and now she has turned that into a fashion blogger empire sharing her style around the streets of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, while creating digital content for brands, including her own. I encourage you to follow her oh so stylish Instagram here and her blog here.
Let the home tour begin! Meet January, a woman of many hats!
Describe your interior design style:
While I often wear various style ‘hats’ when it comes to wardrobe, I try hard to stick to more timeless style when it comes to our home. Neutrals, whites and lots of texture are what makes my heart the happiest. I’ve recently learned the beauty and many benefits of adding living plants to each room, so that’s been a focus of mine the past year or so.
What is your favorite room in your house and why?
My bedroom is definitely my favorite space in our home currently. After years of looking like a college boy lived in it, I finally began tackling it this past year. It’s become my definite “happy place” the past several months. Fluffy white comforters and pillows are my spirit animals, I’ve discovered.
What is one tip for how you maintain a stylish home, while raising a family of boys in it?
Quite honestly, when our boys were really small, all bets where off when it came to keeping things looking fresh and updated, as sad as that sounds. But, now that my focus isn’t solely on picking up Cheerios off the floor 24 hours a day, I’ve been able to put in some real effort and (gasp!) buy light colored sofas and chairs without fear that they were going to get ruined the first week. Ha! I guess my biggest tip would be to set an expectation with your children that all personal things that belong to them stay in their rooms and that they are responsible for making sure they get back there on a daily basis.
What feels like “home” to you?
While I am a bit of a homebody, honestly, “home” is just wherever my husband and two boys are. Period.
Where do you find inspiration for how you style your home?
Like so many, Pinterest is a huge resource for me when it comes to style across the board….home, fashion, life, all of it. I also have always had a love for vintage pieces, so great local places to find those provide a ton of inspiration for me as well.
If you could redo any space in your home, what would it be?
Our kitchen is definitely the first place I would jump on for redoing! We’ve lived in our first home for twelve years now and it’s high time to start thinking about this project. I dream of a light and airy kitchen complete with an island and double ovens for all the baking I like to do.
What are some of your favorite Home Decor/Furnishings stores?
I love to home decor dream on the Lulu and Georgia website. I also love the boho inspo that World Market provides. My weekly obsession though is to stop in to our local Home Goods and see what new things I can score. They always have fun little pieces for the home that don’t break the bank and make things feel fresh again.
Any last home styling tips to help a home feel put together like yours?
I always love stepping into homes that truly reflect the people who live in it. Professionally decorated homes can be beautiful, but seeing little things here and there and photos that have a story are so much more interesting to visit for me. My in-laws have a story for just about everything in their home and I love hearing how each piece came to have a place in their home. I think those kinds of things make a house a home and give it warmth and cohesiveness.
